Manchester United fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Friday night, and Red Devils fans were quick to destroy right-back Matteo Darmian, rated at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, for his display.
The Italy international was handed his first Premier League start since October in place of Antonio Valencia at right-back, but he struggled against Jose Izquierdo throughout before he was replaced by Luke Shaw in the 68th minute.
The 28-year-old only has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford, and while manager Jose Mourinho said he would be keen for him to stay this week, he may have changed his mind after the full-back played his part in another defeat against a newly-promoted club this season.
Man United supporters, who want Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey to replace Antonio Valencia at right-back, took to social media to give their thoughts on Darmian’s performance, and while one said he is “arguably our worst player post-SAF”, another said “Darmiam is the worst player I’ve seen play for this club”.
