Former England and Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has given his view on the shock departure of Garry Monk from Leeds United.
Seaman, who supports the Whites, has revealed to Made in Leeds that he was hopeful Monk would eventually guide the club back into the Premier League.
The former Swansea City boss was widely expected to sign a new deal after Andrea Radrizzani completed his takeover over the club.
However, the new sole owner and Monk could not reach an agreement and the latter opted to walk away from Elland Road.
The 38-year-old had an impressive 12 months at the club by guiding them to seventh in the Championship table.
The season ended on a dampener when the club were edged out of the playoff places by Fulham, but the general consensus from the fans was that Monk deserved an extension to the year-long contract he initially signed.
It was not to be, though, and now Leeds are hunting for a new leader ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
The Twitter account of Made in Leeds TV presenter Mark Kielesz-Levine posted a video of Seaman giving his views on Monk’s exit.
He said:
“I was disappointed when Garry left because I thought he was getting it going in the right direction. I thought we were really on the way there with Garry, but obviously something has happened and now we are in the market for a new manager. We go one step forward and two steps back, it’s disappointing.”
