Aston Villa are considering an audacious swoop for highly-rated Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, according to The Daily Record.
What’s the word?
A sequence of just one victory in ten matches across all competitions cost Steve Bruce his job at Aston Villa last week and, after the weekend’s defeat to Millwall, the pressure is rising on the club as they look for the ideal replacement.
The Daily Record suggests Villa are considering an ambitious swoop for highly-rated Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, in a move that would be a major managerial coup if the Championship side could somehow pull it off.
Howe is said to be one of the names on the six-man shortlist of Aston Villa’s new CEO Christian Purslow as he aims to appoint a new manager during the international break, with Villa having two weeks before their next match against Swansea City.
Could it happen?
The 40-year-old manager is widely regarded to be one of the best young coaches in English football and eyeing a move for the Cherries boss is evidence of how desperate Villa are to land an appointment who can provide an immediate boost.

However, luring Howe to the Championship from a stable join in the Premier League is an almost impossible job and there is no reason for him to walk away from his role – especially as his side are flying high following Saturday’s 4-0 drubbing of Watford.
In addition to all of that, the 40-year-old struggled massively when he left Bournemouth to join Burnley previously, and it is certainly a worry that he couldn’t replicate his success at another club to he wouldn’t necessarily deliver at Villa Park either.
