The disappointing performance of Sri Lanka’s Under-19 cricketers in the recently concluded tri-nation series involving India and Bangladesh has prompted Sri Lanka Cricket to take drastic action in shaping the team ahead of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia.Newly-appointed selector Ranjith Madurasinghe has been given the task of looking after junior cricket. He will work alongside Roger Wijesuriya, the U-19 coach, on improving the standards of the junior cricketers.Madurasinghe, an offspinner of repute from Kurunegala, played three Tests and 12 ODIs before the arrival of Muttiah Muralitharan. Chandrishan Perera, the former Sri Lanka and CH rugby Sevens captain will be in charge of the players’ fitness. He is also known to be a good motivator and is expected to play a dual role.
